With its stunning waterfront, diverse cultural scene, and an array of outdoor activities, Tampa offers countless experiences for travelers of all interests. Whether you're seeking relaxation, adventure, or cultural enrichment, this city has something for everyone. Keep reading to explore the top things to do in Tampa and uncover the hidden gems that make it a destination worth exploring. I moved to Tampa in July of 2020 and absolutely LOVE IT. My list of things to explore and visit seems never ending as there is just so much to see and do here.
These are some of my personal favorites and musts while visiting (besides visiting me):
Water Street: A new edition to downtown Tampa with so many restaurants, bars (visit the Edition's rooftop bar), ice cream, weekend markets and more!
Hyde Park Village: A charming part of town with shops and restaurants. Park in one of the two free parking garages and you can easily spend a few hours here!
Armature Works: A waterfront food hall with so many vendors to choose from. They have an outdoor area to hang and eat, typically live music, and a full calendar of events like yoga, pop-up markets, and more. *great place to come if it rains!
Sparkman Warf: An outdoor food hall concept with each food vendor inside shipping containers.
Picnic Island: The perfect sunset spot! Cute park with disc golf course, boat ramps, a sandy beach, and a dog beach. When my parents come to town we get to go food and eat dinner on the beach while watching the sunset. Dreamy!
Bayshore Blvd: Over 15 miles of sidewalk along the bay with the best views of downtown. You can rent a bike along the way or simply walk this beautiful path.
Here are the other more touristy things to do, but I still recommend!
1. Explore the Riverwalk: Begin your Tampa adventure by strolling along the Tampa Riverwalk. This scenic promenade stretches for 2.6 miles along the Hillsborough River, offering breathtaking views, public art installations, and access to some of the city's most iconic attractions. Don't miss the Tampa Bay History Center and the Tampa Museum of Art along the way.
2. Dive into Ybor City's History: Immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage of Ybor City, Tampa's historic Latin Quarter. Wander through its charming streets lined with colorful buildings, historic cigar factories, and vibrant murals. Ybor City is known for its lively nightlife, eclectic shops, and diverse dining scene. I recommend taking this tour.
3. Discover Busch Gardens: For thrill-seekers and animal lovers alike, Busch Gardens is a must-visit. This African-themed adventure park offers a fusion of thrilling roller coasters, live entertainment, and close-up animal encounters. From heart-pounding rides to serene animal habitats, Busch Gardens promises an unforgettable day. Get discounted tickets here.
4. Dive into the Florida Aquarium: Delve into the depths of marine life at the Florida Aquarium. Home to a diverse array of aquatic species, the aquarium offers interactive exhibits, touch tanks, and opportunities to learn about marine conservation efforts. Get tickets here.
5. Catch a Game at Raymond James Stadium: For sports aficionados, attending a game at Raymond James Stadium is an essential Tampa experience. Cheer on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers!
6. Sunset at Clearwater Beach: While not technically in Tampa, Clearwater Beach is a short drive away and well worth the visit. Sink your toes into the sugary pure white sands, float in the warm Gulf waters, and witness unforgettable sunsets that paint the sky in hues of orange and pink. On weekends they have a market on the pier with local vendors and performers.
7. Visit St. Petersburg: Just a short drive over the bridge, downtown has an amazing new pier with activities for the whole family.
